JesusWeen is a non profit organization also known as JesusWin. We are focused on helping people live better lives through the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. JesusWeen is a God-given vision which was born as an answer to the cry of many every October 31st. The dictionary meaning of Ween is to expect, believe or think. We therefore see October 31st as a day to expect a gift of salvation and re-think receiving Jesus.
Every year, the world and its system have a day set aside (October 31st) to celebrate ungodly images and evil characters while Christians all over the world participate, hide or just stay quiet on Halloween day. Being a day that is widely acceptable to solicit and knock on doors, God inspired us to encourage Christians to use this day as an opportunity to spread the gospel. The days of hiding are over and we choose to take a stand for Jesus. “Evil prevails when good people do nothing”. JesusWeen is expected to become the most effective Christian outreach day ever and that is why we also call it” World Evangelism Day”.

JesusWeen is a nonprofit organization, that promotes Christianity and strives to better the lives of people through Jesus Christ. The people of this organization perceive Halloween to be evil and ungodly, perhaps to an extreme level. They seek to fix the problem of Halloween's unholiness by inventing an alternate holiday described as JesusWeen, or "JesusWin." The way the organization describes the purpose of this holiday, as a rallying call for all devoted Christians to announce the evil incorporated into Halloween. JesusWeen thinks of themselves and their mission as better than the people who choose to celebrate the traditional Halloween. Instead of making JesusWeen a holiday for individual reflection and appreciation of Jesus, they seem to be creating this holiday with the purpose of recruiting more believers to support there cause. Is this holiday Christian propaganda or an alternate religious option to Halloween. Is it the church's responsibility to change an innocent holiday apart from something sinister and evil into something more moral based? What audience is this targeting? Is this a new wave of religious paranoia? Do we need to re-evaluate the underlying themes of Halloween and children's involvement in such a holiday?
I strongly believe this is an example of propaganda; this seems like a way for Christian people to attempt to gain followers in their religion. I don’t suppose that the churches are doing this just for the sack of religious option. The church does not have the responsibility to change a holiday; if someone is against Halloween they can simply just not celebrate it. Morals have the possibility be decided by a person and not an entire religion. I believe the audience being targeted is the people deeply connected to their religion and people who are looking for a religion to follow. This is a new and innovative way to get members into ones religion. In today’s world, Halloween is a time for kids to dress up, eat candy, and a time to have fun with friends. Many have forgotten the background and what exactly we are celebrating.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, Halloween is celebrated in two major ways: either going out to parties or going out trick-or-treating. Only extremists believe that Halloween is the celebration of evil and worshiping the devil. Most people want to use the holiday as an excuse to go out and have fun and eat candy. The fact that JesusWeen is supposed to answer the cry of the many seems highly unlikely. If it were to answer the cry of the many, then Halloween would not be as widely celebrated as it is. I have many friends that are Christian and celebrate Halloween so it seems as though only very religious people believe that Halloween is full of evil. It is a free country and this organization can do as they please, but when children knock on the doors of people handing out Bibles instead of candy, I would expect many tears shed.
ReplyDeleteThis article, is attempting to motivate an audience of those who feel the world is gradually becoming a worse place to live. I personally believe in Jesus Christ and the message in the bible, but the message presented in this article completely contradicts what is presented in the Gospels. The bible displays God’s UNCONDITIONAL love for his creation. Unconditional love means that God will love us no matter how we act or what we do. In this article, a message that we must perform a particular way in order to earn God’s love and approval is presented. This message that Jesusween promotes not only manipulates the bible to fit in with what their desires for the world to look like are, but also makes this article a completely unreliable source due to their lack of knowledge of the message outlined in the bible. This leads me to the conclusion that this “holiday” they have created is simply propaganda so they can add numbers to their club. Halloween is simply a holiday where children and adults alike get to be someone else for a night, and where community is built through acts such as Trick-or-Treating, not the release of evil into the world as over exaggerated by this organization. If this group wanted to make a difference in the world, they should try starting with the facts as opposed to propaganda.
ReplyDeleteAs I read this article, I envisioned those that stand on the corners of campus, or throughout the oval and preach what they want others to believe through fear and “in-your-face” messages. The JesusWeen organization has a right to believe what they want but they did not present any supporting facts that back their interpretation of Halloween, for example specific passages from the Bible or other religious sources, which in turn makes their argument very weak. They attempt to convey their argument through pathos alone, utilizing the strategy of instilling fear in the audience. I find their interpretation of Halloween as a day to “celebrate ungodly images and evil characters,” humorous because the chances of seeing a small child or even an adult dressed as the devil as opposed to a fairy, flower, or cartoon character are highly unlikely. I agree that this article uses propaganda, as opposed to facts, to recruit those who identify themselves as Christians to their organization and expand their group of believers, with the idea that there is power in numbers. I do not find it necessary to re-evaluate the underlying themes of Halloween due to fact that Halloween simply presents one night a year where children and adults everywhere are able to utilize their imagination to be someone or something else for a night. I do not believe the large majority of people that celebrate Halloween, do so with intentions of worshiping or celebrating ungodly images and evil characters. I think Halloween should continue to be an innocent night of fun, where children and adults dress up, and embrace the fun that imagination and make believe presents. We should not look so deeply into Halloween that we feel the need to analyze morals on this night of fun that comes once a year.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that it is a bit extreme for the promoters of Jesusween to say that “the world and its system have a day set aside (October 31st) to celebrate ungodly images and evil characters…” Although I am sure there are people who do worship evil characters on Halloween, most people, from what I am aware of, celebrate Halloween all in good fun—trick or treating or going to Halloween parties. I do not think the way the author used “the world and its system” was very appropriate and was a strong assumption. I can see the good intentions in wanting to spread the word of Jesus, but I do not think this is an appropriate way. I do feel like this is holiday Christian propaganda. I believe this article is targeting those who celebrate Halloween in order to try and persuade those that do to convert to celebrating Jesusween.
ReplyDeleteI believe that JesusWeen is Christian propaganda. I think that the article is geared towards those who celebrate Halloween and serves as an effort to spread the belief that Halloween should instead be JesusWeen. Although we all have the right to choose our religion, I do not think this is a good way for churches to spread the word about Jesus. There are better ways to witness to people other than blatantly criticizing them and telling them that what they're doing is evil. Rather than being the aggressive, "Fire and Brimstone" preacher and saying that everyone is wrong, it is much more effective to speak in a more respectful tone that people are willing to trust and listen to. Thus I do not think it will be effective for the church to try to change Halloween, claiming it an evil holiday. I think it is going overboard by saying that Halloween celebrates "ungodly images or evil characters." While I do think that some Halloween costumes are a bit too grotesque for my liking, I think most people see Halloween as a day where everyone can take time out of their busy schedules to commune with family, friends, and neighbors and get to know each other better.
ReplyDeleteI think that this holiday and article is propaganda and I do not think it is reliable or credible. I checked the dictionary and I did not find "believe" as a definition for ween. I think much of their argument for their holiday is based on belief in Jesus so the name of the holiday does not even make much sense in that regard. I think the article is trying to target a wide audience, but Halloween-lovers in particular. They are using pathos to appeal to people's emotions and make them feel guilty for celebrating Halloween. They do not use logos because they do not back anything up with evidence. They also say that JesusWeen "was born as an answer to the cry of many every October 31st," but they do not indicate who any of the people are, or how many people actually celebrate JesusWeen. This article did not change anything about how I think about Halloween so I do not think we need to re-evealuate the underlying themes of Halloween.
ReplyDeleteI think that this attempt to change the very nature of an old tradition is ridiculous and that the way the people of JesusWeen are going about it is totally wrong. They do not have any evidence to back their argument up therefore they are severely lacking in logos. When they state that there are many people who hide during Halloween is a dramatic understatement. This cherished holiday is nothing more than a fun and innocent day for people to celebrate scary things and to enjoy fall. To say that Halloween is sadistic is wrong because the point of Halloween is not to be evil, after all most people do not even dress up scary anymore. This group is definitely trying to turn a secular holiday into something religious when there is no place for it in Halloween. They are using pathos in that they are trying to appeal to the people who are against all things supernatural or "sadistic" and to further frighten them into gathering to protest an innocent holiday. Overall, JesusWeen is a wrong attempt to spread the word of God to others by telling them they are sadistic and evil.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely think that this article is just propaganda and I also don't think it is the church's responsibility to try to turn a holiday that is just good fun into something moral. I understand there are differences of opinion everywhere. What I don't understand is why, in this case, the church thinks that everyone participating in Halloween is wrong for doing so and needs to be converted to the Christian belief. Everyone deserves to live their life the way they want to and I think just because you believe something different than someone else doesn't mean either party is wrong and should think another way. I think this church is using Halloween as an excuse and marketing their beliefs on it. I honestly know absolutely no one that celebrates Halloween because they're worshiping the devil. The people that I know who celebrate Halloween do it to dress up and go trick-or-treating. My personal opinion aside, I believe the audience of this article is Christians to try and convince them to join the JesusWeen cause. At the same time, I don't believe any of this is credible considering we have no idea where it came from, and who these Christians are that believe they are experts on all things Bible.
ReplyDeleteThis, in my opinion, is completely religious paranora. Halloween or "Hallows eve" is simply the eve of all souls day. Halloween does not have to be about doing evil, I have seen people dressed up as Jesus on Halloween. That being said, this organization claiming that people are doing wrong, or sinning, because they partake in Halloween is utteerly drastic. Kids going to doors and asking for candy has been something that built a strong community in my neighborhood at least. I think I would be stretching it completely if I tried to point out evil worshiping in my neighborhood halloween celebrations. To me this just simply sounds like a couple people wanted to go radical on something so they chose halloween. And they really trying to state that what they say is right because they leave no room for you to twist their words. they just straight up say that halloween is set aside for us to worship ungodly things.
ReplyDeleteWithout a doubt this is Christian propaganda. Also, it seems unreasonable for a child to be expected to spread a message as strong as christianity instead of partaking in what has become an american past time. It is not the church's place to do this. The article completely overlooks the fact that Halloween is actually an originally Christian holiday. The holiday normally celebrated is all-souls day. This is a holy day of obligation in most faiths, and Halloween is a spin-off of this holiday. The target audience for this seems to be Christian parents. The article tries to persuade parents to prohibit their children from partaking in the festivities. I would say that there may be more Christian paranoia regarding some things today than in the past, but this is certainly not the first time that a Christian group has spoken out on the modern day holidays and how they are celebrated. I don't think that Halloween should be reevaluated. It is a completely benign holiday. Most kids dress up as superheros, and even those who dress up as demons are not worshiping the devil by wearing a mask.
ReplyDeleteI would say this is Christian propaganda in the form of an alternate religious option to Halloween. In my opinion, a church is obligated to guide it's members on the righteous and moral path. If a church was to ignore something that it deemed immoral, like Halloween, and does not warn it's members against it, that church then fails to do it's job. Honestly though, I fell like the questions the blogging group provided is not headed in the right direction. Because after reading the text, I did not feel like the organization was associated with anyone particular church. It seemed to me that it was more likely to be a group of friends who share similar beliefs about God and Halloween that have come together to form such an organization. The organization is targeting Christians, with the ambition of having everyone as a target.
ReplyDeleteI personally do not think this organization is Christian propaganda. The whole point of Christianity is to tell others about what God and Jesus has done for the world. This group is just is just simply choosing a day of the year, which is known for slutty behavior and corruption in the world, to act more passionately on their religion. It does not seem like this group is against little children dressing up in innocent costumes going door-to-door collecting candy. This group seems to be against the immorality that goes on every year during October 31st. In any high school or college campus the holiday of Halloween is known for being the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it (according to the movie Mean Girls). JesusWeen is simply choosing to act out their religion on a day that is commonly associated with evil and sexual immorality, to try to bring morals to the world. I think this organization is just providing an alternative for Christians as opposed to going out and parting. I don’t think it is the churches responsibility to change an innocent holiday; however, I would not call Halloween innocent. It seems like the audience that this organization is targeting is all Christians. I also don’t think it’s necessary to re-evaluate the underlying themes of Halloween for children, perhaps only for young adults and teenagers. Overall, while going through the JesusWeen’s website (looking at more than the information that was posted by this group on this blog) I feel like this organization did a good job of supporting their message and their goals by using specific passages from the bible.
ReplyDeleteI think this is also an example of a propaganda. Maybe a christian propaganda. We do not need to believe their opinions. I personally think that Halloween is not a ungodly holiday or represents unholiness. This is a holiday that all people can enjoy and celebrate instead of considering this holiday religiously.
